Elizabeth Rutledge, Chief Marketing Officer

Elizabeth Rutledge is the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) at American Express, overseeing global media, sponsorships, experiences, strategic brand planning, and customer insights. Mrs. Rutledge is passionate about providing the “Powerful Backing” of American Express and demonstrating what it means to colleagues, customers, and communities around the world.

Prior to becoming CMO and a member of the Executive Committee in 2018, Mrs. Rutledge held various product, marketing, and insights roles at American Express. Previously, she was Executive Vice President, U.S. Card Products and Benefits, leading American Express’ Consumer Charge and Lending portfolios, Co-Brand products, and Membership Rewards. Prior, she was Executive Vice President, Global Network Marketing and Information, where she delivered powerful marketing and insights to global merchants.

Mrs. Rutledge sits on the Board of Directors for the Association of National Advertisers, the Ad Council, and the YMCA of Greater New York. She holds an undergraduate degree from Princeton University and an MBA from New York University.
