Doug Tabish is the Chief Risk Officer of American Express and American Express National Bank (AENB), as well as Head of the Global Risk and Compliance organization. He is also a member of the American Express Executive Committee, which develops the company’s strategic direction and determines its key policies.
As Chief Risk Officer, Doug is responsible for overseeing the company’s risk profile, ensuring safety and soundness, and maintaining the company’s control and compliance environments. He leads the teams that provide independent critical oversight and governance of enterprise risks. As part of these responsibilities, his teams also manage regulatory exams end-to-end along with the Global Privacy Program.
With over 20 years with American Express, Doug has led numerous cross functional efforts driving innovation, increasing profitability, and delivering a superior customer experience for internal and external clients. Prior to his current role, Doug was Executive Vice President of Global Card & Risk Operations (GCRO), where he led a critical role on the operational side of risk to protect the company and enable growth, while playing an important role in servicing for customers. He had also served as Executive Vice President of Global Customer Engagement (GCE), where he headed the company’s global consumer, commercial and merchant servicing teams globally. Doug also previously served as President & CEO of American Express Bank, FSB, and as Vice President & General Manager of the American Express OPEN Small Business Network.
Before joining American Express, Doug was a consultant with McKinsey & Company and a Captain in the U.S. Army. He holds an MBA from Dartmouth College and two bachelors degrees in Electrical Engineering and Psychology from Cornell University.
Doug is the Global Executive Sponsor for the Veterans Engagement Network (VET) at American Express. He also serves on the Advisory Board of Legal Outreach and is a member of the Board of Trustees for American Ballet Theatre.
Doug lives in New Jersey with his wife Hilary and their three children, Ella, Lilly, and Matthew.
